The are several events for Graduate students each year.
Every summer the student staff committee holds a barbecue on the lawn at Charterhouse Square and in the New Year we have a beer and curry night in Whitechapel.
Junk the Jargon 2013
The annual Junk the Jargon competition challenges PhD students and postdoctoral researchers to present their research in an interesting and engaging way in just three minutes.
The SMD heats for most recent event was held on February 12 in the Clark-Kennedy Lecture Theatre in Whitechapel and attracted thirteen entrants.
The winner was Gemma Johnson from Pathology in the Blizard Institute who talked about Aspergillus.
The runner up was Andrew Moore from Clinical Pharmacology in the William Harvey who talked about statins.
Joint third was Stavros Orfanos from Mental Health in the Wolfson who talked about non-verbal therapy and Abbie Fearon from Tumour Biology in the Cancer Institute who talked about DNA repair.
These four now go forward to the final which will be held on February 27 at 5pm in the Skeel Lecture Theatre in the People’s Palace at Mile End.
