Learning in English
The Foundation and MBBS programmes are taught in English and all clinical training including the Foundation Year Doctor training will take place in an English-speaking setting.
Our teaching hospitals
Gozo General Hospital (Gozo)
Your teaching base, Gozo General Hospital provides the main healthcare services on the island of Gozo. It will be one of the larger hospitals in the Maltese Islands with a newly expanded Gozo Health Hub, involving busy in- and out-patient services as well as excellent medical care facilities. Our student accommodation will be very close to Gozo General Hospital.
Mater Dei Hospital (Malta)
Mater Dei Hospital is a large general teaching hospital that offers a full range of hospital services. In collaboration with academic institutions, it also provides an extensive range of specialist services, in addition to its own research facilities.
St Luke’s Hospital (Malta)
St Luke’s Hospital (currently under reconstruction) is a healthcare and learning campus. Once building work is complete, it will become a modern acute and rehabilitation hospital, accommodating a rehabilitation centre, and dermatological and holistic centres. Part of St Luke`s Hospital will be refurbished for non-residents and is intended to provide facilities for trauma, acute care and rehabilitation patients.
Karin Grech Hospital (Malta)
Karin Grech Hospital (also currently being upgraded) will provide facilities for geriatric patients.
Mount Carmel Hospital (Malta)

The Barts and The London Medical School – Malta
Our state-of-the-art, purpose-built school will be on the Gozo campus next to Gozo General Hospital in Victoria. While finishing touches are being made, some of the teaching will take place just outside of Victoria on the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology campus near Ghajnsielem.
Our school will be the hub for all your classroom-based teaching and your practical skills sessions. It will also house lecture theatres, seminar rooms, clinical and communications skills labs, library and IT suites (all equipped with IT and AV appropriate for the latest in medical teaching requirements) together with a library and private study spaces.
Anatomy and Physiology
Every student on our MBBS programme will have the opportunity to dissect a body over the course of their degree. Our innovative Anatomy Centre, adjacent to the Gozo Hospital, will provide the space and resources for you to undertake your anatomy practicals, while in the Learning Landscapes Room, tutors will lead demonstrations using anatomical specimens and models, clinical images, videos of surgical and endoscopic procedures and specialised computer imaging. Displays will also allow you to refresh your anatomical knowledge before exams or assessments.
Clinical and Communications Skills Centre
We also have an exceptional Clinical and Communications Skills Centre, designed by our Barts GMC-commended London Team, which is designed to allow you to practise clinical methods and practical skills using the latest patient simulators, models, video recording and mock ward settings.
Your communications skills will be developed in our interview room suite, using video recording and trained actors to roleplay clinical scenarios and give valuable feedback. The Centre is available for self-directed learning outside teaching hours and for exam refresher practicals.
You will have access to a collection of basic medical texts in the School Library as well as 24hr access to a large selection of online resources including picture libraries, books, journals and articles. The Library has excellent computer facilities, as well as individual private study, and group study spaces.
Every student will have an email account and access to the web, as well as a fast wi-fi service. Our intranet (QM+) will provide you with an extensive medical knowledge base, which includes key lecture notes, papers and research. Our intranet will also be our main administrative channel of communication (for example, distributing timetables, study plans and exam results, as well as learning materials).
All of our students will also have access to Queen Mary University of London‘s QM+ online learning environment, which will provide you with all the support material for your studies, including recorded lectures and exam practice papers.
